A young hesperaloe parviflora which can make an attractive addition to your garden. These are miniture agaves, distant cousin to the larger varieties, and they are still waiting to be discovered by a wider population.
They are quite cold hardy, and should easily be able to survive in a sheltered garden position. When mature they produce red flowers, in flower stalks which can reach around
five feet tall.
To flourish in pots, they prefer to be grown in a well drained soil, in very deep pots. Like most agaves from Mexico they grow well during winter months. These photos of the young plant were taken at the Oxford Botanical Garden.
